Fairness at mwb:

The clue is in the name.

About us

Is there even such a thing nowadays as down-to-earth stock exchange experts? Those whose word is their bond, who never promise more than they can actually deliver? We think so. That's why the word "fair" is part of our full name: mwb fairtrade Wertpapierhandelsbank. Because we believe that integrity and reliability should be seen as fundamental elements of the financial markets.

Our philosophy

Acting responsibly

Stability

mwb values substance. We believe a sound capital ratio is just as important as sufficient liquidity. Our growth is organic and not open to experimentation.

Fairness

Trust is based on openness. We act transparently, accountably and in your interests. Our corporate culture is rooted in honest dealing with our shareholders, clients, partners and employees.

Integrity

Our word is our bond. As a company firmly rooted in Germany's mid-cap segment, we keep our feet on the ground and our nose to the grindstone.

Quality

mwb employs highly qualified experts. We are proud to be one of the most well-respected capital markets service providers in Germany and strive to live up to this reputation at all times.

Executive Board

Thomas Posovatz

Responsible for Investor Relations, Communications, Finance, Accounting and Securities Settlement

After stints at Paul Berwein Börsenmakler AG and its successor, S.G. Warburg & Co., Thomas Posovatz joined forces with three colleagues to found his own firm. Beginning in 1993, Posovatz – a graduate in business administration – has been at the helm of MWB Wertpapierhandelshaus AG, ultimately leading it through its merger with Fairtrade Finance AG in 2008. That merger created one of Germany's largest order book management companies: mwb fairtrade Wertpapierhandelsbank AG.

Franz Christian Kalischer

Responsible for Securities Trading, Corporates & Markets, HR, Organisation and IT

Kalischer, a graduate in economics and banking, worked for Hamburg-based broker Rolf R. Warnholtz while still completing his studies. In 1995, as the founding partner and managing director of the first German brokerage company, he laid the foundation for what would later become Fairtrade Finance AG. In order to expand its reach beyond northern Germany, the company merged with MWB Wertpapierhandelsbank AG to form mwb fairtrade Wertpapierhandelsbank AG.

Supervisory Board

Thomas Mühlbauer

Mühlbauer, a banker and securities broker, has been with the company from the very beginning. He was a founding shareholder and served eleven years as Executive Board member responsible for trading at mwb. He has served on the Supervisory Board since 2013.

Michael Wilhelm, Dipl.Kfm. (Chairman)

Wilhelm, CEO at WAPAG Allgemeine Revisions- und Treuhandgesellschaft AG has been with mwb for many years now. He has been a member of the Supervisory Board since 2003, where he has shared his entrepreneurial experience as an auditor and tax advisor.

Hendrik Janssen

Janssen, a banker, economist and certified exchange trader, has been a member of mwb's Supervisory Board since July 2017. As the CEO of BÖAG Börsen AG and managing director of the Hamburg and Hanover Stock Exchanges, he knows our business inside and out.

History

Times change. Our values don't.

Formation

It took a great deal of entrepreneurial spirit to found a securities trading firm in 1993. Deutsche Telekom had yet to float its shares and there was no daily television commentary on stock prices. Indeed, securities were still bought and sold on the trading floor using hand signals, and electronic trading systems were still only in their infancy. mwb's beginnings stretch back to these days.

Exchange listing

It is natural for a broker to be listed on an exchange itself. This makes it possible to better understand the needs of one's own clients. mwb was listed on the Official Market in 1999. We have been listed in the m:access segment of the Munich Stock Exchange since 2009.

Merger

Electronic trading systems began their victory march after the turn of the millennium. One consequence of this was a consolidation process amongst exchange brokers. In order to safeguard and expand its leading position, mwb merged with the Hamburg-based Fairtrade Finance AG in 2008.

Expansion

The financial crisis of 2007-2017 highlighted just how complex the capital markets have since become. As an expert, mwb thus also offers assistance to companies so that they can successfully operate on the stock markets. To that end, the "Capital Markets" segment was expanded in 2016 and rebranded "Corporates & Markets".

Looking ahead

Despite all of these changes, much has remained the same at mwb. For instance, how we think and act: down-to-earth, with diligence, transparency and openness. Values which are as timeless as is the need for people to take action.
